Plectin is a cytoskeletal crosslinker protein, one of the largest proteins in the human body. It connects intermediate filaments, actin, and microtubules into a unified structural network. Without it, cells lose mechanical integrity.
We chose the name because it describes exactly what we do: connecting knowledge systems, conversations, documents, decisions, code, and agent outputs, into a coherent whole. Structure from connection. Integrity from crosslinking.

The idea for Substrate came from watching knowledge-intensive organisations lose their most valuable asset: the accumulated understanding of how things work, why decisions were made, and what was tried before.
